We are seeking a highly skilled IT Infrastructure Engineer to join a large organisation on a 12-month contract basis. This role is critical in supporting and enhancing the organisation’s on-premises IT infrastructure, ensuring the stability, security, and efficiency of systems and networks. You will play a key part in maintaining core IT services and supporting business-critical systems across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain on-premises infrastructure, including physical and virtual server environments.
- Administer and support Active Directory, including Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and OU structures.
- Oversee the integration and support of 3rd-party applications, working closely with vendors and internal teams.
- Ensure infrastructure services (e.g., DNS, DHCP, file services) are performant and secure.
- Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Proactively monitor infrastructure for faults and performance issues.
- Participate in infrastructure projects and upgrades, including patching and capacity planning.
- Provide 2nd/3rd line support to internal teams and escalations as needed.
- Assist with IT compliance and security initiatives, particularly around access control and data protection.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in an infrastructure-focused IT role.
- Strong experience with on-premises IT environments, including VMware/Hyper-V and Windows Server.
- Deep understanding and hands-on experience with Active Directory, including advanced GPO management and AD troubleshooting.
- Experience with 3rd-party application support and vendor liaison.
- Good knowledge of Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), DNS, DHCP, and file systems.
- SolarWinds, Veeam & Citrix experience would be desirable.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, subnets, VLANs, firewalls).
- Experience working with Microsoft 365 and hybrid environments.
- Familiarity with backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault).
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and patch management.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with ITIL processes and service desk tooling.
- Exposure to cloud migration or hybrid infrastructure projects.
- Experience with endpoint management tools (e.g., SCCM, Intune).
- PowerShell scripting or automation experience.
