Role Overview

As an FPGA Hardware Design Intern, you will work alongside industry experts in an Agile environment, gaining hands-on experience in hardware and software co-design. From day one, your ideas will matter, and you will contribute to real-world projects that shape the future of digital systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the full development lifecycle of FPGA IPs and systems—from concept and specification to implementation, verification, and release.
  • Develop SoC (CPU + FPGA) designs for advanced video and analytics applications.
  • Model and prototype new architectures.
  • Optimize FPGA-based board support packages.
  • Collaborate with local and global teams, and occasionally interact with customers.

About The Internship

  • Duration: 13-month fixed-term placement.
  • Eligibility: Must be currently enrolled in a UK-based university on a relevant degree (Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or similar).
  • Ideal for 2nd or 3rd-year students enrolled in a degree with an industrial placement year.
  • Location: Altera Europe HQ, Marlow, UK.

Qualifications

  • Strong digital design skills (FPGA or ASIC) using Verilog/VHDL.
  • Programming experience in C/C++.
  • Scripting knowledge (e.g. Python, Tcl).

  • Excellent communication skills.
