Altera Recruitment Group is seeking a proactive and technically minded Shift Operations Assistant to support the safe and efficient running of a complex energy from waste and process plant facility. This is a hands-on operational role within a continuous process environment, where you will play a key part in plant monitoring, inspections, fault identification and compliance with environmental and safety standards. We are looking for motivated individuals with mechanical or electrical plant experience who thrive in a shift-based, fast-paced environment and are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the safe and efficient operation of the plant, including boilers, turbine and generator systems, gasification equipment and associated auxiliary plant.
  • Conduct routine inspections, record operational data and identify first line faults or deviations using the site CMMS system.
  • Assist with monitoring plant performance via the DCS and operate auxiliary systems in line with operational requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits, health and safety procedures and relevant legislation, escalating any issues appropriately.
  • Contribute to housekeeping standards, stock monitoring, receipt of consumables and coordination with contractors and wider site teams.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A recognised engineering or operational apprenticeship, or an equivalent technical qualification.
  • Experience within a mechanical or electrical plant environment, ideally in a continuous process or shift-based operation.
  • Working knowledge of permit to work systems and safe systems of work.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience of CMMS platforms such as Maximo or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills, a proactive approach to problem solving and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
