This is not a role where you will spend years designing the same components behind a desk. This is an opportunity to help engineer technology that could genuinely change how the world produces clean energy. You will join a pioneering climate-tech business developing cutting-edge carbon-negative systems that convert waste materials into valuable low-carbon fuels. The technology is already attracting significant investment and industry attention, and the next phase of growth is now underway.
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will become part of a highly skilled engineering team working on the development of prototype, pilot, and future commercial-scale systems. Your work will have direct visibility and real impact from day one. If you enjoy solving real engineering problems, want to work on technology with purpose, and are excited by the idea of helping scale breakthrough clean-energy systems from concept through to reality, this role offers a genuinely rare opportunity.
The responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer include:
- Developing mechanical designs for prototype, pilot, and commercial-scale process systems
- Producing 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, plant layouts, and engineering documentation
- Supporting equipment integration, piping arrangements, structural layouts, and overall plant configuration
- Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering, controls, chemistry, and operations teams
- Contributing to prototype build activities, technical problem solving, and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
- Experience using 3D CAD software within an engineering or manufacturing environment, ideally SolidWorks
- Strong problem-solving ability with a practical engineering mindset and the confidence to work across both hands-on and design-based engineering activities
- Experience within process plant, energy, industrial manufacturing, chemical, waste processing, or similar engineering environments would be highly advantageous
- Exposure to pressure systems, piping layouts, skids, integrated plant equipment, prototype development, fabrication, FEA, or CFD would be beneficial, alongside the ability to thrive in a fast-paced multidisciplinary engineering environment
What this is offering:
- Salary of £35,000-£50,000 depending on experience.
- Flexible working hours.
- Private healthcare and life assurance
- Share options and long-term growth potential
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays + Additional birthday leave
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who wants to do more than simply “support projects”. You will help shape the future of a breakthrough technology at a critical stage of commercial growth, while building experience that could define the next stage of your engineering career.
