Senior development engineer required to carry out the following major activities:

  • Component package design
  • Assembly process development
  • Hands-on process operations
  • New product introduction

Skills:

  • Broad knowledge of assembly processes.
  • Essential: wafer saw, epoxy and solder die attach, wirebond.
  • Preferred: package sealing, encapsulation, surface mount.
  • Basic understanding of materials (thermal expansion, thermal conductivity).
  • Mechanical design using Solidworks or equivalent (preferably with thermal/stress modelling experience).
  • Design for manufacturing.
  • Project management (including generating and maintaining project plans).
  • FMEA, DOE
  • An understanding of process engineering, yield improvement & SPC (preferred but not essential)

Qualifications/Education/Certifications:

Engineering/Science degree (lower qualifications will be considered if backed up with more than 7 years relevant industrial experience).

Experience:

A minimum of 5 years relevant industrial experience (semiconductor and/or optical component manufacturing).

Functional Competencies:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the techniques and equipment used in the assembly of semiconductor level micro and opto-electronic components.
  • Ability to work across a wide range of industrial product technologies.
  • Ability to continually maintain an overview of project schedules and to plan future resource requirements while discussing detail with the relevant individuals.
  • Ability to work within cost, quality & time constraints to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability to work under pressure, understand priorities and highlight resource gaps and likely project slippage in advance to allow recovery or commercial management.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to participate contribute and in some cases drive conference calls with key customers.
