Alter Domus is seeking a DevEx Platform Lead to drive the strategy, architecture, and enablement of our internal developer platform and platform engineering practice adoption. This role focuses on empowering engineering teams through world‑class platform services, developer experience, and infrastructure automation across Azure and AWS environments. As Developer Platform Lead, you’ll own the vision and execution of platform engineering initiatives that accelerate development velocity, improve system reliability, and establish best practices across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Platform Strategy & Architecture: Define and execute the developer platform roadmap, aligning infrastructure capabilities with business and engineering objectives; architect and evolve cloud‑native platform solutions on Azure and AWS that enable self‑service, scalability, and security. Establish platform engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices across the organization. Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies and tools to continuously improve the developer experience.
- Infrastructure & DevOps: Design, implement, and manage secure, scalable cloud infrastructure on Azure and AWS. Lead the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure‑as‑code practices using tools like Git, Azure/GitHub, Pipelines, and Terraform. Drive DevOps transformation through advanced deployment strategies including A/B testing, canary deployments, progressive delivery, and circuit breaking patterns. Oversee Kubernetes, Helm, Service Meshes, and cloud‑native technologies, including container orchestration, serverless computing, and event-driven architectures.
- Developer Experience & Enablement: Build and maintain internal developer platforms (such as Backstage or similar portal solutions) that serve as golden paths for teams. Create comprehensive documentation, training programs, and enablement resources to accelerate developer onboarding and productivity; implement and maintain reusable CI/CD pipeline templates, workflows, and automation that enhance development velocity. Provide hands‑on technical guidance, support, and troubleshooting assistance to development teams.
- Platform Operations & Reliability: Establish and monitor platform SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets to ensure high availability and performance. Implement DORA metrics tracking (deployment frequency, lead time, MTTR, change failure rate) and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Create scripts and automation using Python, Go, and Bash to improve operational efficiency and reduce toil; ensure platform security, compliance, and governance standards are maintained across all environments.
- GenAI & Modern Development Tools Integration: Integrate GenAI tooling (Amazon Q, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, etc.) into developer workflows to enhance productivity and code quality. Evaluate and implement AI‑assisted development tools that improve developer experience. Drive adoption of modern development practices through platform capabilities.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams to understand platform requirements and pain points. Standardize and enhance deployment strategies, cloud architectures, and infrastructure patterns. Partner with security, compliance, and operations teams to ensure platform meets organizational standards. Mentor and guide engineers on platform engineering, DevOps, and cloud‑native best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Deep expertise in Azure and AWS, including infrastructure design, security, networking, and cost optimization. Advanced experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Service Meshes, Istio, and cloud‑native architectures. Proficiency with Terraform, ARM templates, CloudFormation, or similar tools. Strong experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins. Proficiency in Python, Go, Bash, or similar languages for automation and tooling. Experience with developer portals (Backstage, etc.) and internal platform development.
- Leadership & Strategy: Proven track record leading platform engineering or DevOps initiatives in complex, multi‑team environments. Strong architectural vision with ability to balance technical excellence with business pragmatism. Experience defining and executing technical roadmaps aligned with organizational goals. Ability to influence and drive adoption of platform standards across engineering teams.
- Developer Experience Focus: Deep understanding of developer workflows, pain points, and productivity blockers. Passion for creating self‑service capabilities and reducing cognitive load for developers. Experience measuring and improving developer experience through metrics and feedback. Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Security & Compliance: Understanding of cloud security best practices, compliance frameworks, and governance. Experience implementing security controls, secrets management, and access policies. Knowledge of infrastructure security scanning, vulnerability management, and remediation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with event-driven architectures, serverless computing (Lambda, Azure Functions), and modern application patterns. Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, New Relic) and platform monitoring. Knowledge of service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd, Consul); Experience with policy-as-code tools (OPA, Sentinel, Kyverno). Contributions to open-source platform engineering or DevOps projects. Certifications: Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, CKA/CKAD, or similar.
Success Metrics
- Developer productivity improvements (reduced deployment time, increased deployment frequency).
- Platform adoption and self‑service usage across engineering teams.
- DORA metrics improvement (lead time, deployment frequency, MTTR, change failure rate).
- Reduction in platform-related incidents and operational toil.
- Developer satisfaction scores and platform NPS.
