As a Maritime Hardware Mechanical Engineer, you will join the Templecombe team to support our activities within the maritime defence sector. Working as a consultant for ALTEN, you will contribute to the design, development and delivery of mechanical hardware solutions for complex naval and underwater systems. This role offers the opportunity to work on safety critical, mission focused programmes, supporting the full engineering lifecycle from concept through to integration and in service support.
Location & Requirements
- Location: Templecombe
- On Site: Full Time – 4 days per week
- Clearance: Full right to work in the UK & SC Clearance MUST be obtained/held.
- Experience Level: 5–10 Years
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical hardware solutions for maritime and naval defence applications.
- Produce and maintain detailed mechanical designs, drawings and assemblies using Creo.
- Manage and control engineering data and configurations using Windchill, ensuring compliance with project governance.
- Support integration activities, ensuring mechanical designs align with system, electrical and hardware requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, technical assessments and problem resolution throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including systems, hardware and manufacturing engineers, to deliver robust engineering solutions.
Qualifications Required Skills
- Strong experience in mechanical engineering within maritime, naval or defence environments.
- Proven background working on naval platforms, underwater systems or maritime hardware.
- Proficiency in Creo for mechanical design and Windchill for configuration and data management.
- Solid understanding of engineering lifecycle processes in regulated, safety critical programmes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- 5–10 years’ experience delivering mechanical hardware engineering within defence or maritime programmes.
- Experience working in structured engineering environments with formal design assurance and quality processes.
Desirable Skills
- Exposure to underwater systems, sonar, naval sensors or maritime defence technologies.
- Experience supporting integration, test or in service support activities.
- Familiarity with systems engineering principles and multi-disciplinary design coordination.
