Job Description
Job Title: Systems Engineer
Location: Occasional visits to Southampton site (3/4x per month)
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Sectors: Maritime
ALTEN is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support the development of next-generation uncrewed vessels used in complex offshore operations. This role is critical to ensuring the safety, functionality, and compliance of cutting-edge maritime systems as they move towards a key testing and demonstration phase.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define what the vessel needs to achieve and identify the required onboard systems.
- Perform structured risk assessments and safety analysis aligned with the top-left of the V-model.
- Capture, manage, and document system-level requirements and architecture.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to prove system safety and operational readiness.
- Support the validation process through clear documentation and traceability of requirements.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering field (Candidates with ex-military experience are encouraged to apply)
- Systems engineering background within a regulated industry (e.g. defence, aerospace, rail, automotive).
- Experience with requirements management, system safety, and architecture development.
- Confident producing documentation and gathering technical input from multidisciplinary teams.
- Delivery-focused and capable of working independently to meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with control systems, system-of-systems thinking, or systems integration is beneficial.
