Job Description:

Play a vital role in developing software that protects airborne platforms from RF-based threats. At ALTEN, we’re supporting cutting-edge electronic warfare systems that demand precision, safety, and performance. As a consultant, you’ll be joining a highly collaborative engineering team delivering real-time, high-integrity embedded software across the full development lifecycle. Key Details:
Location: On-site in Hertfordshire (4 days per week)
Security Clearance: Must be SC clearable
Experience Level: 5+ years’ experience in real-time embedded software

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop real-time embedded software for mission-critical defence systems
  • Deliver across the full software lifecycle, from requirements capture through to integration and test
  • Ensure compliance with high-integrity software standards and robust engineering practices
  • Work closely with systems, hardware, and test engineers to ensure smooth integration
  • Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation
  • Demonstrate initiative and a proactive approach to learning product behaviour and driving improvements

Qualifications:

Required Skills:

  • Proven experience in ADA programming and embedded system development
  • Strong understanding of real-time systems and safety-critical software development
  • Experience working within structured, process-driven environments
  • Ability to communicate effectively across engineering teams and with stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)
  • A Bachelor\’s degree (minimum) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or similar technical field OR
  • Demonstrable applied real-time embedded software engineering experience from a UK Armed Forces background will be equally considered.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of DO-178C and safety-critical software assurance
  • Experience with DOORS for requirements management and Dimension for configuration control
  • Background in electronics engineering or embedded hardware interaction
  • Familiarity with lab-based testing and debugging on real hardware
