As a Mechanical Component Design Engineer, you will join our Loughborough team to develop and refine mechanical components and assemblies for manufacturing. You will apply engineering principles, design for manufacture techniques, and PLM processes to deliver high-quality, production-ready designs across injection-moulded, machined, and sheet metal parts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine mechanical designs using SolidWorks (mandatory).
  • Produce accurate technical drawings in compliance with BS 8888 standards.
  • Manage the development or PLM lifecycle of injection-moulded, machined, and sheet metal components.
  • Apply fundamental engineering principles to guide design decisions and optimise component functionality.
  • Utilise Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles to ensure designs are efficient to produce.
  • Support prototyping activities and provide design input for early-stage validation.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including manufacturing, testing, and project engineering.

Required Skills:

  • Strong experience in SolidWorks (mandatory for onboarding).
  • Proven experience in mechanical component design, including injection-moulded, machined, and sheet metal parts.
  • Knowledge of DFM principles and engineering fundamentals.
  • Ability to produce accurate technical drawings compliant with BS 8888 standards.
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills across engineering teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience with PDM/PLM systems for component management.
  • Exposure to prototyping, validation, and manufacturing processes.
