We are looking for an experienced Java Engineer to support a longâterm defence project based in Dorset. This role involves handsâon development, secure coding, and contributing to system design within a highly regulated environment.
Location: Dorset
On Site: 3x onsite
Clearance: SC
Experience Level: Mid - Senior
Key Responsibilities:
- Work through Java development tickets and deliver highâquality code
- Design, build, and maintain Java applications within a serviceâoriented architecture
- Develop and manage RESTful APIs for system integration
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure all work meets strict security and defence standards
- Contribute to system design sessions and architecture reviews using Enterprise Architect
- Follow Agile development practices and support continuous improvement
Qualifications Required Skills:
- Mandatory engineering experience
- Proven background in building REST APIs
- Proficient with IntelliJ IDEA
- Familiar with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.)
- Experience using Enterprise Architect for system modelling
- Understanding of defenceâsector requirements and secure coding principles
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- Experience in any highly regulated sector (defence, aerospace, government, telecoms, finance, etc.)
- Knowledge of modern software architecture approaches (serviceâoriented, modular, microservices)
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines or automated testing frameworks
- Understanding of integration between complex systems
- Familiarity with UML or other modelling/diagramming methods
- Strong problemâsolving skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Willingness to learn domainâspecific standards and security requirements
