As a Gas Turbine Design Engineer, you will join our Derby team to support our activities within the civil aerospace propulsion sector. You will contribute to the design and development of advanced gas turbine structures and casings across major propulsion programmes. Working within a highly regulated aerospace environment, you will play a key role in delivering complex mechanical design solutions that directly influence engine performance, manufacturability, and long‑term reliability. This position places you at the centre of fast‑moving engineering activities, collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams to drive innovation and technical excellence.

Clearance: Must be able to obtain BPSS Clearance

Experience Level: 5+ Years

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop gas turbine structures, casings, and associated components.
  • Produce 3D models, detailed drawings, and documentation using Siemens NX.
  • Collaborate with stress engineers to validate designs through structural analysis.
  • Optimise designs for weight, cost, manufacturability, and performance.
  • Work closely with stress, manufacturing, procurement, and other cross‑functional teams.
  • Apply Agile methodologies to manage design tasks and iterative improvements.
  • Liaise with suppliers to resolve technical challenges.
  • Support design reviews, risk assessments, and DFMEA activities.

Technical Leadership & Autonomy:

  • Take ownership of design tasks from concept through to production.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
  • Stay current with emerging aerospace materials, technologies, and processes.

Compliance & Documentation:

  • Ensure all designs meet regulatory and programme requirements.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, BOMs, and change records in TeamCenter.
  • Support configuration management and version control processes.

Qualifications Required Skills:

  • Proven experience in aerospace structural or mechanical design.
  • Strong background in gas turbine components (casings, enclosures, load‑bearing structures).
  • Proficiency in Siemens NX (modelling, drafting, assemblies).
  • Experience with TeamCenter for PLM and data management.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and aerospace standards (e.g., AS9100).
  • Exposure to FEA or CFD tools is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban).

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience with FEA or CFD analysis workflows.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or other aerospace quality frameworks.
  • Supplier liaison and cross‑functional coordination experience.
  • Knowledge of configuration management and BOM control.
  • Understanding of modern aerospace materials and manufacturing processes.
