Job Description
What will you be doing?
We\’re looking for an experienced Electrical Standards Engineer to support the delivery of a high-profile smart grid infrastructure project in the UK. You\’ll focus on 11kV-33kV electrical network design, ensuring all designs meet national standards and distribution network operator (DNO/IDNO) requirements
Your main responsibilities will be:
- Develop and validate HV single-line diagrams (SLDs) and system layouts for smart grid networks.
- Review and mark up HV design documentation, including substations, cable routes, and transformer configurations.
- Specify and size electrical equipment such as cabling and switchgear to meet UK compliance standards.
- Ensure alignment with DNO/IDNO guidelines, UK regulations, and safety protocols.
- Collaborate with design and project delivery teams to ensure quality, consistency, and feasibility.
- Conduct independent research to apply up-to-date industry standards.
- Support onboarding and interface with supply chain and HR teams where needed.
- Participate in technical reviews and provide quality assurance across design packages.

Qualifications
Experience, skills and qualifications required:
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years\’ experience in HV electrical design (11kV-33kV).
- Strong working knowledge of UK electrical regulations, including DNO and IDNO design standards.
- Proven track record in creating and reviewing SLDs, cable sizing, and equipment layouts.
- Familiar with BS 7671, ENA standards, and relevant electrical design codes.
- Proficient in using CAD or electrical design tools (e.g. AutoCAD Electrical, PowerFactory).
- Excellent communication skills for working with design, planning, and project delivery teams.
- Bonus: Experience with LV design, smart grid technology, or digital substations.
