Play a vital role in advancing one of Europe’s most important airborne radar programmes. This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge airborne radar technologies used across advanced military aircraft platforms. You’ll be embedded in a multi-disciplinary team developing real-time embedded software using Ada and C++, contributing to the success of a complex and safety-critical system. This is a key role within a high-integrity environment, suited to engineers with a background in defence, aerospace, or other regulated industries. You’ll be supporting mission-critical radar functionality for a future capability upgrade on a nationally strategic aircraft.

Location: Edinburgh, on site

Clearance: Must hold or be eligible for SC clearance

Seniority: 8+ years’ experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop robust embedded software in Ada and C++ within a radar systems environment
  • Produce clear documentation and maintain full configuration management of your work
  • Deliver concise technical reports, documentation, and presentations to internal stakeholders
  • Track project milestones and report accurate progress to Software Leads and Project Management
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including Software, Systems, and Integration engineers
  • Investigate and resolve complex system integration issues within real-time radar environments

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Strong recent experience in Ada development for embedded systems
  • Proven track record delivering across the full software development lifecycle
  • Familiarity with agile software practices (e.g. Scrum, Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, GitLab)
  • Experience working in regulated industries such as Defence, Aerospace, Automotive, or Medical
  • Strong team collaboration mindset, particularly within small, integrated teams

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Java as a secondary language
  • Radar or sensor system domain experience
  • Knowledge of real-time systems and safety-critical software constraints

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline OR a relevant technical military background with equivalent hands-on engineering experience
  • Must be eligible for UK SC Security Clearance (Minimum 5 Years in the UK)
