As a Systems Design Engineer –Sampling System Design, you will join the Derby/Warrington team to support our activities within the Nuclear sector, focusing on the Reactor Island Sampling Systems. You will play a key role in progressing the system design to Final Concept Definition (DR3 maturity), working closely with chemistry, systems, and multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
Location: Remote with occasional visits to site either in Derby/Warrington
Clearance: BPSS and subject to export control rules
Experience Level: 5-10 YOE
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design of Reactor Island Sampling Systems in line with Final Concept Definition requirements (DR3).
- Liaise closely with the Chemistry team and key interfacing stakeholders to define, allocate and manage system requirements.
- Present design maturity, decisions and risks to the Design Manager and Chief Design Engineer.
- Produce the full DR3 design documentation pack, including: System Description, P&IDs, Functional Bill of Materials (FBoM), Requirements documentation.
- Complete key design decisions and preliminary sizing calculations, including fluid flow and pressure drop assessments.
- Engage with transversal teams to ensure Design considerations are incorporated (commissioning, operability, through-life activities and maintainability).
- Identify, manage and reduce design uncertainties during concept development.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of process engineering principles.
- Experience progressing concept and preliminary system designs in a regulated engineering environment.
- Experience performing pressure drop, fluid flow and component sizing calculations.
- Ability to manage design interfaces and collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering or equivalent military experience.
Desirable Skills:
- Interest or background in chemistry and sampling methods.
- Experience in nuclear or other safety-critical industries.
- Familiarity with gated design review processes and systems engineering methodologies.
