We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading aerospace programme based in Derby. This role offers the opportunity to work on the design and development of complex aerospace control systems and electronic enclosures, supporting cutting-edge engineering projects within a highly regulated environment. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the product lifecycle, from concept development through to detailed design and validation.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead mechanical design activities for aerospace electronic control units and associated hardware.
- Develop concept designs, 3D models, detailed drawings and engineering documentation.
- Produce designs using Siemens NX and manage product data within Teamcenter.
- Apply GD&T principles and undertake tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Generate and review technical documentation including: Test Plans, Test Procedures, Material Reports, FMEA / DFMEA documentation.
- Work closely with Stress, Thermal, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Test and Systems Engineering teams.
- Support design reviews and ensure compliance with programme requirements.
- Contribute to design verification and qualification activities in line with aerospace standards.
- Estimate engineering effort and deliver work packages to agreed deadlines.
- Identify opportunities to improve product performance, manufacturability and cost.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years' experience within aerospace mechanical design or electronic enclosure design.
- Experience working on Electronic Engine Controllers (EEC) or similar aerospace electronic units.
- Strong proficiency in Siemens NX 7.5, Teamcenter 8, PLM tools.
- Excellent understanding of GD&T, Tolerance stack analysis, Mechanical design methodologies.
- Experience producing engineering reports and documentation to RTCA DO-160 and/or MIL standards.
- Aerospace industry experience is essential.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- Knowledge of advanced and modern manufacturing techniques.
- Experience within gas turbine, propulsion or engine control systems.
- Understanding of qualification and verification processes within regulated environments.
