As a Civil Engineer, you will join our team in Bridgewater to support major construction and infrastructure projects. This role focuses on overseeing on-site activities, ensuring quality compliance, monitoring construction progress, and maintaining accurate site records aligned with contractual and regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in ensuring that work is delivered safely, to specification, and in line with project expectations.

You will work closely with contractors, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to maintain high standards across all stages of construction delivery.

Location: Bridgewater Somerset

On Site: 3-4 Days

Clearance: BPSS

Experience Level: 5-10 YOE

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Supervision & Quality Assurance
    • Monitor construction works to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and contract requirements
    • Inspect materials and workmanship to ensure quality standards are met
    • Identify and report defects, non-conformances, and potential risks
  • Documentation & Reporting
    • Maintain accurate, concise, and contract-relevant site diaries and reports
    • Document progress, issues, and key milestones throughout the project lifecycle
    • Support project teams with clear and structured reporting
  • Stakeholder & Contractor Management
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors and site teams
    • Provide clear guidance while remaining independent, objective, and professional
    • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Health, Safety & Compliance
    • Ensure works are carried out in accordance with CDM Regulations and health & safety requirements
    • Support compliance with legal, regulatory, and environmental standards
    • Contribute to safe systems of work and site-based risk management
  • Construction Oversight
    • Support delivery of large civil engineering works and infrastructure installations
    • Monitor construction methods, sequencing, and material usage
    • Participate in document and drawing review processes where required

Required Skills:

  • Broad understanding of the construction industry, materials, and trade methods
  • Strong organisation, delegation, and communication skills
  • Proven experience working within large construction teams
  • Ability to produce clear, accurate, and contract-relevant site diaries
  • High attention to detail when inspecting work and materials
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be persuasive and diplomatic while remaining independent

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent military experience

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience in large civil works installation and erection
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations and approvals processes (documents and drawings)
  • Experience using electronic handheld devices for site data capture
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (French is advantageous)
