As an FPGA Design Engineer, you will join our Birmingham team to support our activities within the aerospace and advanced electronics sector. You will contribute to the development of FPGA-based solutions for control systems, focusing on motor drives and DSP applications. This role offers the opportunity to work across coding, debugging, and system-level integration within a regulated aerospace environment, supporting both new and existing product development.
Location: Birmingham
On Site: 3 days per week on-site
Clearance: Clearable
Experience Level: Mid to Senior (multiple positions available)
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop FPGA designs using VHDL for DSP and control system applications
- Implement motor control and motor drive control algorithms
- Work with requirements management tools to ensure traceability and compliance
- Perform debugging and validation at card level
Required Skills:
- Strong experience in FPGA development and VHDL coding
- Experience working with DSP applications or signal processing
- Knowledge of motor control systems and motor drive control
- Experience with debugging at board/card level
- Familiarity with requirements management tools and structured development processes
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- Experience working within aerospace or regulated industries
- Understanding of DO-254 or similar safety-critical design standards
Desirable Skills:
- Experience developing control algorithms for motor systems
- Ability to work from detailed specifications and implement designs independently
- Experience balancing hands-on coding with higher-level system understanding
