Senior Systems Engineer (DOORS Next) in Portsmouth

We are seeking a Senior Requirements Systems Engineer to support a major defence programme, playing a key role in the management, development, and governance of system requirements. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and stakeholders, ensuring requirements are effectively captured, maintained, and managed throughout the engineering lifecycle. This position is ideally suited to an experienced Systems Engineer with strong DOORS Next expertise who can provide guidance, best practice, and support for requirements management activities within a complex engineering environment.

On-site Requirement: Hybrid (3 days onsite)

Security Clearance: Candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.

Key Responsibilities & Experience:

• Lead and support requirements management activities across the programme using DOORS Next.
• Act as a subject matter expert for DOORS Next, providing guidance, support, and best practices to engineering teams and stakeholders.
• Develop, maintain, review, and manage system requirements throughout the engineering lifecycle.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure requirements are correctly defined, traced, and verified.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support requirements capture, change management, and governance processes.
• Demonstrable experience operating within Defence, Aerospace, Naval, or other highly regulated engineering environments.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

• Strong experience in Systems Engineering.
• Excellent knowledge and practical experience of DOORS Next.
• Proven background in Requirements Engineering and Requirements Management.
• Experience developing, reviewing, and maintaining requirements specifications.
• Understanding of requirements traceability, verification, and validation activities.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

• Ability to influence and support engineering teams across multiple disciplines.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Organised and methodical approach to requirements management.
• Proactive problem-solving mindset.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or relevant technical military background with equivalent experience.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience within the Defence or Naval sector.
• Knowledge of systems engineering lifecycles and engineering governance processes.
• Experience working on complex, safety-critical, or mission-critical programmes.
• Familiarity with requirements verification and validation activities.
• Existing Security Clearance.
