ALTEN UK is supporting major programmes within the defence and infrastructure sectors and is looking for a Structural Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team working on complex building and structural design projects in the Nuclear sector. This role will involve contributing to the detailed design and assessment of safety‑critical structures, supporting highly regulated engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the detailed structural design of buildings within a multidisciplinary engineering team
  • Prepare engineering calculation notes and technical substantiation documents
  • Analyse and review technical documentation, drawings and engineering specifications
  • Carry out reinforced concrete checks in accordance with relevant standards and codes
  • Design using Eurocode and British Standards
  • Support structural integrity and safety assessments for complex infrastructure projects
  • Collaborate with civil, structural and geotechnical engineering teams

Required Skills

  • Experience within structural, civil or mechanical analysis engineering
  • Structural Design UK experience
  • Understanding of reinforced concrete structures
  • Experience designing industrial structures such as bridges, mines, hospitals, water plants or nuclear plants using Eurocode
  • Experience working within highly regulated industries such as defence, nuclear, aerospace or infrastructure is advantageous

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

  • Experience within safety‑critical engineering environments

  • Previous experience supporting defence or nuclear programmes
