Job Description

ALTEN is seeking a Systems or Materials Compliance ILS Engineer with 5–10 years of industry experience to support one of our major defence clients based in Bristol. This role will focus on a PALMA-related workload involving the management of Bills of Materials (BoMs) and material compliance activities. The work supports a high-profile defence platform and offers the opportunity to contribute directly to operational readiness.

We are looking to onboard an engineer to assist with BoM uploads and material checks, as well as one senior specialist with materials engineering expertise to advise on compatibility and substitution.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Uploading BoMs and associated parts lists into the PALMA system
  • Reviewing BoMs against a defined list of restricted materials (e.g. REACH, RoHS)
  • Supporting the assessment of material compatibility and advising on safer alternatives
  • Collaborating with supportability and engineering teams to maintain data accuracy and compliance

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

  • 5-10 years of experience in Systems Engineering, Supportability Engineering, or ILS within the defence or aerospace sector
  • Must hold or be fully eligible for UK SC Clearance.
  • Prior hands-on experience using the PALMA tool in an engineering environment (essential)
  • Familiarity with BoM structures and material compliance (REACH, RoHS)
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence working with structured engineering data

Desirable:

  • Background in materials engineering or materials science
  • Experience with material substitution, obsolescence, and hazardous material compliance
  • Knowledge of relevant defence standards (e.g. DEF STAN 00-600, DEF STAN 00-72)
