Job Description
Work on complex radar data processing challenges that directly support the UK’s naval defence systems.
We’re looking for skilled Mathematical Modellers to join a mission-critical radar programme, developing and refining algorithms that power high-performance radar tracking systems. You’ll be working hands-on with radar signal data, building simulations, validating outputs, and driving improvements to advanced models using MATLAB and (optionally) Simulink.
This is a rare opportunity to apply your physics or mathematics expertise to a nationally significant programme, with high visibility and real-world operational impact.
Location: Isle of Wight (Hybrid – Portsmouth or Chelmsford possible)
On-Site Requirement: 4–5 days per week onsite
Experience Level: Mid-level
Clearance: Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, optimise, and validate radar data processing algorithms for embedded and real-time use
- Use MATLAB to create and refine models that simulate radar tracking and control system behaviour
- Analyse radar datasets to evaluate algorithm performance and recommend improvements
- Collaborate with systems and software engineers to support end-to-end integration
- Contribute to the design and testing of algorithms within a multi-disciplinary team
- Support documentation and reporting of modelling results for internal and external review
Required Skills:
- Proven experience in radar algorithm modelling, signal processing, or simulation
- Strong proficiency in MATLAB for data analysis and model development
- Solid background in mathematics, physics, or engineering with modelling focus
- Radar experience is essential – particularly in the context of tracking, detection, or control systems
- Clear communication skills and ability to work closely with cross-functional technical teams
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field
- Must be eligible for UK SC Security Clearance (Minimum 5 Years in the UK)
Desirable Skills:
- Experience with Simulink for system simulation
- Knowledge of embedded radar systems or real-time algorithm implementation
- Understanding of platform integration, validation testing, or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments
