Role Overview

Join ALTEN as a Business Development Manager and play a pivotal role in accelerating growth across the UK Ground Transportation sector OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers (Automotive, Rail, Heavy Vehicles, etc.). Working directly with the Division Director, Global Account Managers (GAMs), SalesOps Directors and Business Units, you will shape strategy, drive commercial performance, and influence major client engagements. This is a high-visibility role with direct impact on revenue growth, market share, and strategic account development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Market Strategy & Growth Leadership
    • Define and drive a 3-year growth roadmap for Ground Transportation in the UK
    • Analyse market dynamics, competitors, and client trends to identify high-value growth opportunities
    • Provide actionable insights to steer strategic decisions at sector and global account level
    • Anticipate risks and propose mitigation strategies to protect and grow business performance
    • Contribute to ALTEN's global community, influencing sector-wide strategy and positioning
  • Strategic Account & Commercial Leadership
    • Act as a trusted business partner to Global Account Managers on key accounts
    • Drive account-based growth plans, including cross-selling, upselling, and new market entry
    • Lead the development of sector-specific value propositions and offers
    • Represent ALTEN at industry events and key client engagements
    • Support and coach sales teams on commercial governance and account strategy execution
  • Sales Performance & Data-Driven Insights
    • Monitor and challenge pipeline health, forecast accuracy, and sales momentum
    • Leverage CRM data to generate high-impact insights that influence commercial decisions
    • Develop clear dashboards and executive reporting for leadership teams
    • Lead win/loss analysis and drive continuous improvement in sales effectiveness
    • Act as a key driver of performance culture and accountability across teams
  • Bid & Pre-Sales Excellence (RFI/RFQ)
    • Coordinate complex Request For Informations and Framework Agreement responses across geographies and business units
    • Support high-value bids to secure strategic wins with key clients
    • Ensure alignment between sales strategy, pricing, and delivery capability
    • Work closely with Bid teams to improve quality, consistency, and win rates
  • Sales Process & Operational Excellence
    • Drive continuous improvement of sales processes, tools, and governance
    • Ensure effective use of CRM and sales tools to maximise efficiency and data quality
    • Maintain a central repository of commercial knowledge, assets, and best practices
    • Lead initiatives to enhance sales productivity and scalability

What we are looking for

  • 6+ years' experience in sales, sales operations, or business development within Ground Transportation or related sectors
  • Strong understanding of UK Auto and Rail OEMs and Tier 1 ecosystem
  • Proven ability to drive commercial performance and influence senior stakeholders
  • Experience in CRM-driven sales analytics and performance management
  • Track record supporting or leading RFIs, RFQs, and strategic bids
  • Comfortable operating in a matrix, international environment
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
