ALTEN UK is supporting major programmes within the defence and infrastructure sectors and is looking for a Structural Analysis Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team working on complex building and structural design projects. This role will involve contributing to the detailed design and assessment of safety‑critical structures, supporting highly regulated engineering environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the detailed structural design of buildings within a multidisciplinary engineering team
  • Prepare engineering calculation notes and technical substantiation documents
  • Analyse and review technical documentation, drawings and engineering specifications
  • Develop and assess finite element models using ANSYS APDL
  • Perform soil–structure interaction assessments and seismic calculations
  • Carry out reinforced concrete checks in accordance with relevant standards and codes
  • Support structural integrity and safety assessments for complex infrastructure projects
  • Collaborate with civil, structural and geotechnical engineering teams

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Experience within structural, civil or mechanical analysis engineering
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA/FEM)
  • Experience using ANSYS APDL or similar analysis tools
  • Understanding of reinforced concrete structures
  • Knowledge of seismic analysis and/or soil–structure interaction
  • Ability to produce engineering calculations and technical reports
  • Experience working within highly regulated industries such as defence, nuclear, aerospace or infrastructure is advantageous

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of Eurocodes and British Standards
  • Experience within safety‑critical engineering environments
  • Understanding of structural dynamics
  • Exposure to coding/scripting for engineering analysis (Python, MATLAB or APDL scripting beneficial)
  • Previous experience supporting defence or nuclear programmes
