ALTEN UK is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Structural Design Engineer to lead structural design efforts on reinforced concrete and steel structures within the Nuclear Island of EPR nuclear power plants. This role is pivotal to ensuring the safety, integrity, and compliance of critical infrastructure in one of the world’s most demanding engineering environments.
This is not commercial building design — it is heavy, complex, reinforced concrete engineering for long-life, safety-critical facilities.
Responsibilities- Lead an international engineering team on Nuclear Island structures for EPR nuclear power plants.
- Design and analyze reinforced concrete and steel structures.
- Ensure compliance with Eurocode, ETC-C, and nuclear safety standards.
- Assess seismic, dynamic, and construction-related loads for structural integrity.
- Collaborate with BIM teams, drafters, and engineers to ensure design coordination.
- Evaluate and implement design changes, maintaining compliance and performance.
- Deliver technical documentation, drawings, and structural specifications.
- Provide on-site support during construction, resolving structural issues.
- Mentor junior engineers and oversee detailing work.
- Liaise with clients, regulators, and construction teams to ensure CDM and safety compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, tools, and best practices.
- Proven experience in RC and steel structure design for large scale infrastructure projects.
- Solid understanding of Eurocodes.
- Proficiency in structural analysis tools like STAAD Pro.
- Strong capability in seismic design and complex load assessments.
- Experience supporting construction sites, resolving structural challenges in real time.
- Familiarity with 3D BIM tools like TEKLA and Navisworks is a plus.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.
- Proactive, autonomous, and solution-oriented.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills in multidisciplinary environments.
