ALTEN UK is supporting major engineering and infrastructure programmes within the defence and nuclear sectors and is looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join a multidisciplinary delivery team. This role is ideal for someone with a technical civil engineering background who is looking to develop their career within project management and programme delivery while remaining involved in engineering-focused projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Delivery Manager with coordination of civils project activities
  • Assist with project planning, action tracking and delivery monitoring
  • Monitor progress of engineering deliverables and project milestones
  • Draft and manage non-technical project documentation, reports and meeting minutes
  • Coordinate actions and follow‑ups across multidisciplinary teams
  • Support risk, issue and dependency tracking activities
  • Work closely with technical teams to understand civils-related topics and project impacts
  • Assist with stakeholder communication and project governance activities

Qualifications Required Skills

  • Background in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience supporting engineering, infrastructure or construction projects
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical civils topics
  • Experience tracking actions, deliverables and project progress
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in a Project Coordinator, Project Support or Assistant Project Manager role
  • Experience within defence, nuclear, rail or infrastructure sectors
  • Familiarity with project planning or tracking tools such as MS Project, Primavera or Excel
  • Understanding of engineering project lifecycles and deliverables
