Platform Support Engineer (2nd Line / IT Operations) – Manchester Remote 1st – £40k - £50k
The Company
My client are a modern, tech-led business operating in a regulated environment, building and supporting critical platforms used internally across the organisation.
The platforms are important. Break and its ruining someone\'s weekend, month or more.
You’ll be joining a small, collaborative Technology Operations team where curiosity, teamwork, and learning actually matter. Fully remote, with the team meeting in person just once a quarter.
Big USPs for the role is the clear progression due to how successful the company is, and the varied day2day of the work.
The Role
This is a step up from traditional 2nd line support. You’ll be working as part of a Tech Ops team, supporting the companies products and internal platforms, keeping systems healthy, and solving real problems rather than just closing tickets.
Day-to-day you’ll be:
- Monitoring production systems and responding to alerts
- Troubleshooting incidents and performing root cause analysis
- Handling internal tickets (no end-user/customer support)
- Supporting patching, releases, system checks, and security updates
- Working closely with engineers to improve platform stability
There’s an out-of-hours rota, but it’s structured, paid, and shared fairly.
What They’re Looking For
Someone with a few years’ experience in a 2nd line / IT operations / platform support role who enjoys problem-solving and collaboration.
Key experience
- Monitoring tools, alerting, and system health checks
- APIs and basic networking knowledge
- Scripting (Bash, Python)
Nice to have (but can be learned):
- GCP (or AWS)
- HSM or payments platforms (BACS, SWIFT, etc.)
Personality matters:
You’re collaborative, happy to ask questions, not afraid to say “I don’t know”, and enjoy working in a remote team where people genuinely help each other.
