Your future role
The Bogies Department in Derby has a long-standing history of developing bogies that meet the needs of international markets, with products operating worldwide. We are proud to have a strong base of highly skilled experts, a collaborative and proactive “can‑do” culture, and well‑established links with other bogie and Rolling Stock sites. Together, these strengths enable us to deliver competitive and high‑quality engineering solutions. Building on the success of the Flexx Eco bogie platform developed in Derby—deployed across commuter, metro, and very high-speed rail sectors—we have recently attained Product Development Office status for monorail bogies. We are currently working to bring this product to the same high standard. The monorail bogie is a unique and specialised product, supported by a range of R&D initiatives aimed at enhancing its robustness, competitiveness, and overall performance.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to its development, working alongside a highly experienced, dedicated, and driven team of specialists and technical managers.
We’ll look to you for:
- Ensures, with their colleagues and the technical departments, the product technical relevance, from definition to industrialisation and performance in revenue service.
- Leads and ensures overall technical project management, including internal and external stakeholder coordination (customers and suppliers), interface management, master planning, technical guidance, and monitoring of the allocated budget.
- Guarantees compliance with all contractual technical requirements, including performance targets, RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety), fire and smoke standards, and eco‑design criteria.
- Ensures the timely availability of all required input data and any information impacting studies, such as design assumptions, supplier lead times, and production deadlines.
- Ensures and leads design reviews and internal and external definition and validation files.
- Responsible for producing, updating, and approving all technical definition and justification documentation, and defining, implementing, and monitoring the technical validation plan for the product and its components (including routine tests, type tests, part qualification, and line testing).
- Contributes to and supports tender responses.

- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Experience in the Railway Industry is required for this role.

- Familiarity with technical requirements such as RAMS, fire/smoke standards, and eco-design principles.
- Adaptability to work in a dynamic, cross‑functional environment.
- Analytical skills to optimise product development costs and ensure compliance with technical requirements.
