Role Overview

Alstom Transport Services UK Ltd is dedicated to the successful and safe delivery of its services to its customer and to the achievement of its business plan. This post shall be pivotal in achieving this. To provide technical expertise and support to the project undertaking exam‑based maintenance, unplanned and planned work, fault finding and rectification and assist the project to meet its obligations in providing the new Class 730 fleet to the customer. You will undertake exam‑based maintenance, diagnose and carry out fault repairs to the Class 730 fleet in order to provide optimal performance to ensure on‑time delivery of units to our customer and provide improvement of fleet reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake exam‑based maintenance
  • Undertake planned and unplanned tasks
  • Provide technical support to the depot teams in the provision of fault‑finding expertise and assistance with train repair activities.
  • Provide diagnostic and repairs on electronics and electrical systems
  • Have extensive knowledge of 3 phase, single phase and DC power systems and control systems.
  • Detailed recording of faults, fault reporting, data gathering and verbal communication
  • Carry out fault finding and investigate intermittent faults on vehicles either on depot or in service.
  • Carry out Testing & Re‑Commissioning activities on vehicles and trains in accordance with pre‑written test and commissioning procedures.
  • Assistance in component change‑outs, and failure reporting for central systems support and reliability growth teams.
  • Assist with skills development within depots
  • Provide on‑train fault diagnosis/rectification for units in service.
  • Investigate technical problems as instructed by the project support engineering team.
  • Partake in gathering required data downloads on critical performance systems.
  • Undertake test runs to assist in fault finding and resolution of faults, in particular the closeout of repeat failures.
  • Functionally test train‑borne systems with minimal supervision using a variety of techniques and methods, including the use of computer‑based diagnostics systems.
  • Review and rectify test specifications and documentation for functional tests, feeding back any problems with VMI’s, Fleet Checks, Modifications or technical documents using the correct process.
  • Assist with the validation of documentation issued in support of maintenance and repair activities, special checks, modifications and experiments.
  • Assist in the validation of Maintenance Schedule amendments and other technical instructions.
  • Assists with the validation of locally produced technical instructions.
  • Provide technical support in connection with special checks and experiments.
  • Liaise with the systems support engineers and specialist engineers as necessary, gathering technical information needed to enable technical problems with trains, procedures, materials or component problems to be resolved.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with the Train Care Centre quality and safety procedures.
  • Where necessary travels to other 730 WMT Project Depots and Outstations to assist varying workload

Qualifications

  • Electrical based NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Practical experience and a sound knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering aspects of modern Electric Multiple Units.
  • IT skills – competent user of Personal Computer, including office packages, e‑mail and intranet.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability.
