Service Engineer

Location: Selhurst or Brighton

Appointment Basis: Permanent

Your future role

AsaServicesEngineer,you’llreporttotheEngineeringManagerandcollaboratedailywithateamofmotivatedProjectEngineersandspecialistsacrossthebusiness.You’llbeattheheartofsafety,reliability,andcostoptimisationinitiatives,leadingworkstreamsthatresolvetechnicalchallengesandbringmeasurablevaluetoourcustomers.You’llalsomanageeffortstoaddressobsolescence,whereolderpartsorsystemsarenolongersupported,ensuringthatservicecontinuityismaintainedthroughinnovativeandtimelysolutions.Allworkwillprioritisesafety,usingstructuredprojectmanagementprinciplesandclosecollaborationwithcentralfunctionssuchasEngineering,Procurement,andDocumentControl.

We\’ll look to you to:

  • Leadtheidentificationandimplementationofsafe,cost-effectiveshort-termcontainmentactionsandlong-termcountermeasuresforproductsafetyandreliabilityissues.
  • Deliverengineeringchangestoimprovetrainsystemreliability,reducemaintenancecosts,andsupportCustomerVariationOrders(changestothescopeofsupplyorservicesagreedwiththecustomer).
  • ParticipateinROP(RisksandOpportunitiesPlanning):assessingthecost/savingimplicationsofactions,supportingriskmitigation,changemanagement,andprojectplanning.
  • Resolvetechnicalquestionsandissues,internallyorwithcustomers,tosupportsystemimprovementsandcostsavings.
  • RepresentengineeringontheProjectReliabilityBoard,supportingkeyfailuremoderesolutions.
  • Leadcontinuousimprovementprojectsthatreducetrainoperationalandmaintenancecostswhilemaintainingcompliancewithlegalandcertificationrequirements.
  • PerformRootCauseAnalysisandreliabilityinvestigationsinlinewithRailwayGroupStandards,suchasTheRuleBook.
  • Manageobsolescence:liaisewithOEMs(OriginalEquipmentManufacturers),suppliers,andexternalpartiestosourcesuitablereplacementsormodifications.
  • Supportcustomerdiagnosticsandfault-finding.
  • AdviseonfullvehiclesystemsincludingTCMS(TrainControlandManagementSystem),HVAC (Heating,Ventilation,andAirConditioning),propulsion,brakes,doors,andonboardcommunications.
  • AnalysetraindatausingonboarddatarecordersandtheOrbitaremotemonitoringplatformtoidentifyandresolvefaults.
  • Monitorwarrantyclaimsandworkwithsupplierstoaddresstechnicalissues.
  • Ensureappropriatereplacementpartsaresourcedandalignedwithtechnicalrequirements.
  • CollaboratewithAlstom\’sTechnicalPublicationsandCentralEngineeringteamstoupdatemaintenanceandoverhaulinstructions.
  • ProvidetechnicalsupportforallNIRs(NotifiableIncidentReports)relatedtosafety,includingcoordinatingwithDesignAuthoritiesandOEMs.
  • Sharebestpracticesandlessonslearnedfromotherglobalfleetstosupportdesignimprovementsandstandardisation.
