Your future role
Take on a new challenge in Mansfield and apply your Software Design Engineering expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll report to the Head of Engineering and work alongside a dedicated and passionate Services team in Alstom UK&I.
Day-to-day, you’ll deliver cost-efficient embedded software designs in line with budget levels. We’ll look to you to do the following:
- Provide embedded software designs for a range of electronics systems, project-specific and scheduled to meet customer deadlines.
- Deliver high standards of embedded software design in terms of performance, reliability, quality, cost, innovation, and service level.
- Ensure all software designs comply with the latest industry-specific and EU regulations.
- Take responsibility for embedded software design for various systems, aligning with project requirements and quality standards.
- Adopt and continuously improve innovative and best practice embedded software standards.
- Ensure full compliance with design, quality, and Health & Safety Regulations.
- Report Quality, HSE, or HR issues to the Engineering Manager promptly.

- Substantial embedded software design experience, preferably within a relevant electronics or rail industry context.
- Degree or equivalent in Software Engineering or related field.
- A driven, disciplined, logical thinker, self-motivated team player, with excellent communication skills and a high level of innovation.
- Strong technical ability, innovation, organizational skills, problem-solving, and commitment to continuous improvement.
- High customer focus.
- 100% compliance with design, quality, and HSE regulations.
- Ability to deliver on timescales, within budget, maintaining quality standards.
Understanding of embedded software design including:
- C/C++, C#, Visual Studio, CE 5.0 & 6.0, .NET, MFC, Visual Basic, ARM9, 8051, PIC, X86, SQL, Assembler, RTOS. Web application design (TypeScript/JavaScript/HTML/CSS) is desirable.
- Fault analysis, testing, factory acceptance, site testing, and commissioning.
- Test procedures, change control, and version control.
