Your future role

Join the team responsible for defining the mechanical architecture of future trains in the UK and abroad. We are looking for an experienced mechanical engineer who is an expert in interface management as applied to concept design and system integration on a whole train, vehicle, installation, assembly and detail level.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Generate space allocation for train level systems to define and manage interfaces
  • Ensure derivation of vehicle level requirements into physical form in the Digital Mock-Up
  • Responsible for calculating / managing tolerance stack-ups at a vehicle and Installation level
  • Responsible for managing gap and flush and perceived quality in line with Alstom processes
  • Ensures digital mock-up management and provides related KPI (Completion, maturity, carry over, conformity to model)
  • Minimise diversity of designs and support maximum carry-over of design between platform products
  • Structure, sequence and pilot the collaborative design workshops
  • Liaison with central experts and involvement with expert network to support knowledge transfer and process development
  • A high level of cross-functional working with design, system engineering and industrial teams.

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • Highly experienced in interface management
  • Highly experienced in mechanical engineering, mechanical design in transport industry
  • Good knowledge of Train Mechanical Architecture
  • Good knowledge of dimensional management from whole product down to sub-assembly level.
  • Good knowledge of Perceived Quality
  • Good understanding of manufacturing and assembly process and the factors influencing this in design
  • Experienced CAD user, preferably Catia V5 / V6
  • Good communicator, able to co-ordinate and / or support cross functional product development activities
