Your future role involves taking on a new challenge and applying your technical expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll report to the Maintenance Engineering Lead Engineer and work alongside dedicated and passionate teammates. You’ll be working as part of a team of Engineers across the DMU/DEMU fleet platform delivering activities and projects to provide a safe, reliable and cost-efficient fleet of trains, which meets the Train Operator’s presentation requirements and complies with their Safety Case obligations. The role will involve travel to other depot locations in close proximity when required and working a shift pattern including nights to provide Engineering support 24/7.
We’ll look to you for:
- Be point of contact for the depot operations team to resolve technical issues and support decisions to help keep contracted availability targets.
- Supporting other local depots across the platform via phone to resolve technical issues, travelling to those sites when required during the shift.
- Develop and deliver engineering change to improve fleet/system reliability performance, reduce cost of maintenance & deliver customer variation solutions.
- Identify and implement safe, cost effective, containments and countermeasures to identified product safety issues.
- Planning and delivery readiness (inc. BoM’s, work instructions & configuration) for planned maintenance activities, as defined by the Vehicle Maintenance Instruction.
- Ensure that the specified fleet maintenance regime is certificated, adhered to and complies with all relevant legislation, and associated limitations are effectively managed.
- Use engineering knowledge, problem solving skills, standard project management techniques and awareness of standards and the constraints of the delivery organisation to support, justify and manage changes.

- Ideally educated to Degree or Higher Certificate in engineering/technical discipline or equivalent.
- Strong organisational, resource management and decision-making skills.
- Strong engineering/technical knowledge of traction and rolling stock systems and maintenance policies/practices.
- Experience in fleet maintenance or asset management environment.
- Experience in delivering rail vehicle engineering change, including risk assessments and approvals.
- Knowledge of rail industry legislation and safety case obligations.
- Chartered status or actively working toward chartered status (advantageous).
