Vehicle Modeling Engineer, Emerging Markets

We’re looking for a Vehicle Modeling Engineer, Emerging Markets to lead the development of system‑level and high‑fidelity models for small electric vehicles. This role is responsible for full vehicle performance modeling, including powertrain, energy, electrical dynamics, and thermal behavior, supporting development from concept through validation and volume production. The engineer will build and maintain multi‑domain models of vehicle subsystems, translate simulation results into vehicle requirements and performance targets, and collaborate closely with hardware, software, controls, reliability, and test teams to optimize vehicle performance and ensure system robustness.

What You Will Do

  • Vehicle System Modeling
    • Develop, maintain, and own multi‑domain and high‑fidelity models of vehicle subsystems for an electric micro‑mobility platform, including:
    • Electric drivetrains
    • Motors and motor electromagnetic models
    • Inverters and DC/DC converters
    • Battery cells and battery packs
    • Gearboxes and braking systems
    • Thermal management systems
  • Convert motor electromagnetic models into system‑level executable models suitable for full vehicle simulations.
  • Develop battery cell and pack models using supplier data for:
  • Powertrain system‑level modeling
  • Battery management system (BMS) algorithm development.
  • Powertrain and Electrical System Analysis
    • Perform system‑level simulations of electric powertrain behavior across a wide range of:
    • Operating conditions
    • Drive cycles
    • Vehicle use cases
    • Control strategies.
  • Apply deep expertise in electrical system dynamics, including:
    • Transient current behavior
    • Battery ripple current analysis
    • Inverter‑motor interaction
    • Power electronics dynamics.
  • Vehicle Performance & Attribute Development
    • Develop drive cycle and usage models to define vehicle operating conditions and establish vehicle capabilities and performance attributes that drive system design.
    • Create models supporting:
    • Vehicle efficiency analysis
    • Range estimation
    • Thermal performance
    • Cost analysis
    • Energy consumption modeling.
  • Requirements & System Architecture
    • Translate subsystem and system‑level models into:
    • System requirements
    • Performance targets
    • Design constraints for internal teams and suppliers.
  • Define and maintain interfaces between subsystems, including:
    • Electrical
    • Thermal
    • Mechanical
    • Software controls.
  • Ensure consistency between models, requirements, and implemented hardware.
  • Thermal & Controls Algorithm Development
    • Develop algorithms related to:
    • Thermal derating strategies
    • Battery management systems (BMS)
    • System protection and performance optimization.
  • Validation, Data Analysis & Model Correlation
    • Process and analyze data collected from:
    • Prototypes
    • Test benches
    • Field‑deployed vehicles.
  • Correlate simulation predictions with real‑world data to validate and refine models.
  • Work closely with test and validation teams to ensure model accuracy and predictive capability.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration
    • Work cross‑functionally with:
    • Hardware engineers
    • Firmware engineers
    • Controls engineers
    • Software engineers
    • Reliability teams
    • Manufacturing teams.
  • Support test planning, system validation, and reliability engineering with model‑based insights.
  • Translate modeling results and data insights into clear engineering recommendations.
  • Data Systems & Monitoring
    • Support development of data pipelines and dashboards for:
    • System health monitoring
    • Vehicle usage profiling
    • Reliability tracking.
  • Use operational data to improve models and support continuous vehicle performance optimization.
  • What Experience & Qualifications You Need To Bring

    • Degree qualified (Bachelor’s minimum, Master’s preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
    • 5+ years of experience in physical systems modeling (e.g., Simulink, Modelica, MATLAB, or equivalent tools).
    • Strong MATLAB and Simulink experience.
    • Strong experience with Python or other data analysis tools (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Jupyter).
    • Familiarity with vehicle dynamics, control systems, or battery/electric powertrain modeling.
    • Hands‑on experience with time‑series data analysis and signal processing including filtering and Fourier analysis.
    • Familiarity with CAN bus protocols, vehicle telemetry, or IoT data systems.
    • Strong experience in electric vehicle or hybrid vehicle systems.
    • Electric Powertrain Expertise including electric motors and motor modeling; power electronics (inverters, DC/DC converters); battery modeling and electro‑thermal behaviour; energy flow and efficiency modeling.
    • Electrical System Dynamics including transient current analysis, and power electronics interactions.
    • Thermal Systems including EV thermal management modeling and component and system‑level thermal simulation.
    • Data & Validation including data analysis using Python or MATLAB and model validation and correlation with real‑world test data.
    • Experience with micro‑mobility platforms (e‑bikes, scooters, light EVs).
    • Experience working with suppliers on component modeling and validation.
    • Familiarity with BMS algorithm development.
    • Experience building drive cycle models and usage simulations.
    • Experience supporting vehicle programs from concept through production.
