The Role
Microbiology Team Leader to join our busy food testing laboratory in Carlisle. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead a talented team, make a real impact on food safety, and develop your career in a supportive and dynamic environment. As Microbiology Team Leader, you'll be at the heart of our laboratory operations — keeping things running smoothly, maintaining the highest standards, and inspiring your team to do their best work every day.
About the Role
- Hours Per Week: 40h
- Shift Pattern: Tuesday - Saturday, 12:45-21:45 Tuesday - Friday and 11:30-20:30 Saturday
- Contract: Full time, Permanent
- Annual Salary: £29,366
The Day to Day
- Organise and manage the team's workload to ensure tests and processes are completed accurately and on time.
- Oversee quality management tasks, ensuring full compliance with HSE, Quality, Regulatory, and Accreditation standards.
- Provide hands-on training and monitor team performance, addressing any concerns proactively and constructively.
- Collaborate with management to introduce new or improved equipment and processes.
- Support laboratory management with results approval and the communication of any out-of-specification reports.
- Play a key role in protecting public health by ensuring the highest standards of food safety testing are upheld.
The Essentials
- Degree qualified in a relevant Science discipline (e.g. Microbiology, Biology, Biomedical Science or similar).
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of microbiology analysis across a wide range of methodologies and procedures.
- A minimum of 3 years of laboratory experience.
- Previous Team Leader experience in a microbiology setting.
- Experience working in a Containment Level 3 (CL3) environment.
- Solid knowledge of microbiological analysis methods and procedures.
- Knowledge of MALDI-TOF systems is a definite advantage.
