We have an exciting opportunity for a Service Engineer to join our expanding in-house Instrument Service Engineering team. We are looking for someone with excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate technical information in a clear and easy-to-understand way. You will be a proactive decision-maker who is solution-focused, with a creative, innovative, and logical approach to meeting business objectives.

In this role, you will provide technical support, preventative maintenance, and repair for analytical laboratory instrumentation, working both autonomously and as part of a wider team. This is a site-based role at either Hawarden, Wakefield, or Coventry, and will require travel to other ALS sites across the UK and, on occasion, Europe. Instrumentation covered is predominantly ICP-OES and ICP-MS, with opportunities to learn and support additional analytical instrumentation over time.

The Day to Day:

  • Carry out preventative maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on laboratory instrumentation.
  • Manage and respond to allocated work requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Complete and maintain equipment service documentation in line with ALS Quality Management System requirements.
  • Work collaboratively within the Instrument Service Engineering team to provide the highest level of service to laboratories.
  • Maintain stock inventory of spare parts.
  • Comply with ALS and ISO health and safety procedures.

The Essential:

  • An HND or higher in a scientific field. Candidates without this qualification may still be considered if they have relevant experience.
  • Specific instrument vendor experience, such as Agilent and Thermo.
  • Experience working as a Service Engineer, Test Engineer, or in a Technical Support role.
  • Experience in a Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical Laboratory environment would be advantageous.
  • A methodical approach, with the ability to prioritise workload, manage multiple tasks, and deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
  • The ability to manage shifting priorities and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Good IT skills; working knowledge of instrument vendor software would be an advantage.
  • A willingness to travel to other ALS sites within the UK; travel is an essential part of this role.
  • A desire to learn new skills and undertake training to expand knowledge and competence.

Our Benefits:

  • Annual leave starting at 25 days, rising to 30 days, plus 8 public holidays.
  • Option to buy additional annual leave.
  • Enhanced Company Sick Pay Scheme.
  • Celebrating Success Recognition Awards.
  • Perkbox membership, providing access to discount vouchers and a wellness hub.
  • Learning and study support.
  • Group Personal Pension Plan.
  • On-site car parking.
