We are a leading life sciences organisation specialising in metals and commodities analysis. ALS are known for our commitment to quality and innovation, providing accurate testing and expert analytical support to a wide range of industries. We are currently looking for a reliable, detail-focused individual to join our laboratory team as a Balance Operator on a fixed-term, late-shift basis.

In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for the precise weighing and preparation of samples to support downstream laboratory testing. Working as part of our late-shift team, you’ll operate in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, safety, and strong teamwork are essential.

About the Position
  • Shift: 1:30pm-9:30pm
  • Contract: Full-time, fixed term contract
  • Salary: Competitive, with opportunities for progression
The day to day
  • Preparing and handling samples through careful mixing, blending, and dipping techniques
  • Operating high-precision analytical balances and moisture analysis equipment
  • Interpreting moisture results to support accurate laboratory reporting
  • Replenishing materials and ensuring smooth workflow across the team
  • Organising, storing, and distributing samples with accuracy and care
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient working environment in line with company standards
The Essentials
  • A positive attitude and a genuine willingness to learn
  • Great organisational skills and a methodical approach to tasks
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to stay focused
  • Confidence with basic maths and English (GCSE level or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office is a plus
  • Any previous lab experience (paid or voluntary) is welcomed but not essential
