Overview

Primary role is to support the Production Manager in the economic and high quality production of timber profiles and cut to size sheet materials. The Assistant Production Manager is responsible in conjunction with the Production Manager, for overseeing all the manufacturing activities taking place at the Head Office. Accountable for ensuring an efficient and productive end to end process that meets our customer\'s needs while conforming to all H&S requirements and legislation. Providing clear direction to production teams to achieve the required standards of safety, quality, and service while controlling costs.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Production Manager by ensuring correct processes are in place to meet production goals and that all staff understand their roles and responsibilities; deliver products to required standards on time and in full.
- Ensure all administrative issues relating to materials and stock controls are completed on time and with accuracy.
- Act as an interface between all levels of management and operations employees; provide training opportunities and regular reviews of performance.
- Coach, counsel, and discipline employees and initiate, coordinate, and enforce systems, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure staff are trained to produce quality output and products.
- Perform any of the following tasks to support the Production Manager: complete production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel, monitor progress, revise schedules, resolve problems, and report results on shift production summaries.
- Maintain the efficiency and cleanliness of the production facilities.
- Ensure offcuts and rejects timber are converted into standard usable stock.
- Maintain quality service by establishing and enforcing company standards.
- Ensure adequate personnel coverage for all production processes.
- Ensure operation of equipment via repairs, evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Provide production information and ensure accurate recording of production times, methods and costs.
- Develop and revise systems and procedures by analysing operating practices and record-keeping, and support implementation of change.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment and educate staff on the use of control points, equipment, and resources; maintain compliance with internal and external policies and procedures.
- Resolve personnel problems by evaluating data, investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending actions with the Production Manager.
Education/Qualifications/Experience
Must have a good level of education e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ Levels 3 to 5, wide range of short training courses, and/or equivalent qualification as appropriate for the role. A minimum of 2 years’ experience of working in Production supervision. Skills include Supervisory Management, Specialist Timber Machinist, Managing Processes, Process Improvement, Production Planning.
