About ALS
At ALS, we encourage you to dream big. When you join us, you’ll be part of a global team harnessing the power of scientific testing and data‑driven insights to build a healthier future.
Role Overview
The Sustainability Reporting Specialist supports the development and delivery of ALS’s external sustainability disclosures, including annual and sustainability reporting, the Modern Slavery statement, and responses to ESG ratings agencies. The role drives accurate, decision‑useful reporting that strengthens transparency, supports compliance, and informs strategic and risk‑based decision‑making across the Group.
Key Responsibilities
- External sustainability reporting: Coordinate inputs for external sustainability disclosures across the Annual Report and other sustainability reporting outputs, ensuring clear ownership, timelines, and quality control. Collect, validate, analyse, and interpret sustainability data and narrative inputs from business units and corporate functions to produce verifiable, quality reporting. Prepare content aligned to applicable standards and frameworks (including ASRS and relevant international frameworks) and support the uplift of disclosure maturity over time. Partner with subject matter owners to develop reporting on material environmental, social, and governance topics, ensuring consistency, completeness, and appropriate evidence.
- Modern Slavery Statement & due diligence support: Coordinate the annual development and delivery of ALS’s Modern Slavery Statement, collecting inputs across regions and functions (e.g., Procurement, Legal, HR, Operations). Monitor modern slavery and related human rights regulatory developments in markets where ALS operates and translate requirements into practical reporting and process updates. Coordinate the modern slavery audit/assessment program in partnership with relevant functions and business streams, supporting remediation tracking and continuous improvement.
- ESG ratings and stakeholder questionnaires: Manage submissions and ongoing engagement with ESG ratings agencies (e.g., EcoVadis, MSCI, Sustainalytics, FTSE Russell and others as required). Maintain supporting evidence and ensure alignment between ratings responses and ALS’s published disclosures. Track ratings outcomes, identify improvement opportunities, and work with internal stakeholders to address gaps.
- Governance, communication and stakeholder engagement: Prepare clear updates and reporting packs for senior leadership and key internal stakeholders, summarising performance, disclosure outcomes, risks, and emerging requirements. Support governance processes that ensure sign‑off readiness, version control, and consistency of external statements across channels.
- Integration with strategy and risk: Translate reporting insights, stakeholder expectations, and regulatory requirements into inputs for ALS’s sustainability strategy, policy, planning, and enterprise risk management processes. Contribute to sustainability plans and roadmap development, supporting prioritisation based on materiality, risk, and stakeholder needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Accounting, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in sustainability reporting.
- Strong understanding of sustainability frameworks and reporting standards and/or ESG rating agency requirements.
- Excellent time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work across multiple workstreams and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proficient in sustainability assessment tools and Microsoft Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work flexibly to align meetings to a multi‑time‑zone global firm as needed.
- Experience using databases and software such as Watershed or Workday is advantageous.
