ALS is seeking an experienced and commercially minded IT Manager for the UK & Ireland to act as the strategic link between the business and IT. This role combines strong stakeholder engagement with hands-on operational responsibility, ensuring IT services are reliable, compliant and closely aligned to business needs across UK & Ireland locations. You will be a trusted partner to local leadership, accountable for day-to-day IT operations while collaborating with regional and global IT teams to support ALS’s mission of delivering data-driven insights for a safer and healthier world.
The Day to Day
- Act as the primary IT point of contact for UK & Ireland business stakeholders.
- Build strong relationships with the business, translating operational needs into effective IT services and improvements.
- Provide Level 3 desktop support and ensure high-quality end-user computing services.
- Manage location-based IT operations, including IT asset lifecycle management, printers, conference room AV and IT liaison for lab equipment.
- Coordinate IT support for office builds, moves and changes (BMC), including infrastructure and end-user set-up.
- Deliver hands-and-feet support for infrastructure teams, including hardware installations, patching and server room activities.
- Manage local IT operational budgets, procurement and cost optimisation.
- Oversee relationships with local IT vendors and service providers, monitoring SLAs and service performance.
- Ensure compliance with global IT standards, internal policies and external regulations, supporting audits and risk assessments.
- Maintain accurate operational documentation and reporting.
- Lead and mentor local IT support resources and collaborate closely with regional and global IT, infrastructure, applications, cybersecurity and project teams.
The Essentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in IT operations, service management or business relationship management.
- Strong working knowledge of ITIL, IT service management and infrastructure support.
- Proven experience managing site-based IT operations and engaging with business stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational delivery.
Desirable certifications
- ITIL Foundation (or higher).
- BRMP (Business Relationship Management Professional).
- PMP or PRINCE2.
- ISO/IEC 20000 (or equivalent).
