ALS Laboratories are looking for 2 Laboratory Analyst Grade 1s to support the General Microbiology department at ALS Coventry. This is a great opportunity for individuals with a keen eye for detail and a strong interest in microbiology to join a fast-paced, quality-driven laboratory environment.
Laboratory Analysts require a good mix of skills, including solid experience in light microscopy. You will be responsible for ensuring procedures are followed to effectively and accurately test samples and record results. The right candidate will be detail-focused, methodical, and able to closely follow instructions.
The Day to Day
- Understanding and meeting customer requirements.
- Ensuring samples are completed efficiently and effectively, in line with all processes, procedures, and legislation.
- Delivering against key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Accurately reporting analytical data.
- Participating in the Taste and Odour panel on a rotational basis following successful screening.
- Supporting and assisting team members to achieve shared objectives.
- Proactively ensuring compliance with Health and Safety policies and procedures at all times.
Role Details
- Hours Per Week: 37
- Days Per Week: Role 1 – Tuesday to Saturday, from midnight to 8:00. Effectively, Monday to Friday nights. Role 2 – Thursday to Monday, from midnight to 8:00. Effectively, Wednesday to Sunday nights.
- Basis: Permanent and Full Time
- Annual Salary: £24,242 per annum + £2090 shift allowance.

The Essentials
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C (or new Grade 4) or above, including Science, Maths, and English.
- An A-level or equivalent in a scientific subject is desirable.
- Essential experience in light microscopy.
- The ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately, with a strong willingness to learn.
- A client-driven mindset with a focus on quality and turnaround times.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Good computer literacy.
- A collaborative approach to teamwork.
- The ability to plan and organise your own work area effectively.
