Role: European Freight Forwarder

About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced European Freight Forwarder / Transport Operator to join a growing logistics operation.
The main focus of the role will be European road freight forwarding , managing shipments from booking through to delivery and working closely with customers, hauliers and overseas partners.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience within European transport, road freight or freight forwarding . However, candidates with a strong UK transport background who demonstrate the aptitude, ambition and willingness to develop their knowledge of European transport will also be considered.
Alongside the freight forwarding responsibilities, approximately 30% of the role will involve UK warehousing and distribution within the company's 8,000 sq ft warehouse facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day European road freight movements from booking through to delivery.
- Arrange and coordinate European collections and deliveries.
- Liaise with customers, hauliers, suppliers and overseas transport partners.
- Obtain and negotiate transport rates where required.
- Prepare and process relevant transport and freight documentation.
- Track shipments and provide customers with regular updates.
- Resolve operational issues and delays efficiently.
- Ensure shipments are managed in line with customer requirements and agreed deadlines.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers and transport partners.
- Support UK transport and domestic distribution requirements.
- Book goods into the warehouse and ensure stock is correctly received and recorded.
- Assist with offloading trucks and trailers when required.
- Assist with loading goods for onward despatch.
- Support general warehouse and distribution activities as part of the wider operation.
- Work closely with the wider operations team to ensure an efficient end-to-end service.
European Freight Experience
The role is primarily focused on European freight forwarding, so experience with some or all of the following would be advantageous:
- European road freight
- Groupage / part-load / full-load movements
- Import and export movements
- European collections and deliveries
- Transport planning and coordination
- Haulier and carrier management
- Freight documentation
- Customer service and shipment tracking
- European transport rates and quotations
- Cross-border logistics
Warehouse & Distribution
Approximately 30% of the role will involve supporting the company's UK warehousing and distribution operation.
This will include:
- Booking goods into the warehouse.
- Checking incoming deliveries.
- Offloading trucks and trailers.
- Loading goods for despatch.
- Preparing goods for onward delivery.
- Supporting general warehouse operations.
A forklift licence is desirable but not essential . Training can be provided for the successful candidate if required.
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced within European transport, freight forwarding or road freight OR has a strong UK transport background and wants to develop into European logistics.
- Organised and able to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Confident communicating with customers, suppliers and transport partners.
- Commercially aware and able to work to deadlines.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on operational environment.
- Proactive and able to solve problems independently.
- Willing to get involved with both office-based freight forwarding and practical warehouse activities.
- Ambitious and keen to develop their career within European logistics.
