Job Title: Road Import Operator

Salary: Up to £38,000 (Dependent on experience)
Our client is a leading global freight forwarder seeking a driven, detail-oriented professional to join their busy international logistics team in Manchester. In this role, you will take full ownership of European inbound road freight shipments from origin scheduling right through to final UK delivery, ensuring absolute compliance and world-class customer service along the way
What You’ll Be Doing
- End-to-End Coordination: Manage the daily execution of inbound overland transport files (groupage, part-load, and full-load / FTL & LTL) from initial foreign collection to final UK destinations
- Documentation & Customs: Prepare and process crucial import documentation, including CMRs, transit documents (T1/T2), and UK import customs declarations for cross-border movements
- Carrier & Haulier Liaison: Coordinate with international transport providers and domestic hauliers, tracking vehicle progress, handling border clearances, and managing arrival schedule
- Client Relationship Management: Act as the primary point of contact for UK key accounts, providing real-time tracking updates, proactive problem-solving, and resolving transit or port delays smoothly
- Financial Integrity: Complete job costing, ensure all accurate billing and supplier payables are processed, and maximize file profitability
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: Proven experience working in Road Freight Import Operations (European inbound trailer movements) within a freight forwarding environment is essentials
- Technical Knowledge: A strong grasp of inbound transport documentation, Incoterms, and post-Brexit UK import customs procedures
- System Savvy: Experience using freight management or transport management software (e.g., CargoWise One, EDI Enterprise, or similar) is highly desirable
- Mindset: An analytical problem-solver who thrives under pressure in a fast-paced environment and possesses strong attention to detail
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to effectively manage relationships with continental hauliers, internal customs teams, and UK clients
