Robotics Engineer (Bespoke Machinery Manufacturing) in Cheltenham

Location: based at our offices between Cheltenham and Tewkesbury, although there will be regular onsite work at our customer sites primarily in the UK, Europe, USA & Canada. Candidates must live within a sensible computable distance from our location, taking into account traffic.

ALS Mechatronic specialise in the design, build and installation of bespoke control systems, factory automation systems including manufacturing process and packaging machinery, conveyors, robotics and vision inspection. We are located in a 40,000 square foot factory just outside Winchcombe in North Gloucestershire, employing ~50 people. We’re expanding our operations and our solutions offerings as a result of increased customer demand and looking to appoint an experienced robotics engineer.

You’ll have the opportunity to bring our customers’ automation aspirations to life, working across a variety of industry sectors (predominantly in food and beverage and plastic container handling) and on some ground-breaking projects. A lot of what we do is typically bespoke to our customers and to date there’s not been an automation challenge we’ve not been able to support or walked away from.

The role: Reporting to the managing director, but working as part of a closely-knit team, you will be required to work both in-house and on customers’ sites – mainly around Europe and North America. We currently have active projects in North America which will require numerous trips to over the next few years.

Considered a robotics expert, you will be instrumental in delivering robotics as single solutions but more often as part of a larger / complete turnkey automation solution, therefore you’ll work in close collaboration with our team of design and control engineers.

Responsibilities include:

• The effective design and programming of robotic solutions
• Working closely with other members of the team to ensure effective robotics integration
• Ownership of certain customer projects from conception, design, build, to customer delight!
• On site installation and commissioning
• Servicing and Fault finding on existing systems
• Training and mentoring other team members in robotics
• Ensuring all projects are delivered to the highest possible standards and in a timely fashion

To be considered for the role, you will be experienced in:

• All things robotics and be able to evidence this at interview
• Experience of any of the following OEMs (and willingness to quickly upskill to others as required): Manufacturing industries / processes
• Industrial Control Systems
• Industrial Networks (EtherNET, ProfiNET)

Ideally, you will also have experience of the following:

• Programming of PLC / Touch Screen / Network / Scada
• Working in foreign countries

• Full driving licence (with 3 penalty points or less)
• Presentable and articulate
• Trustworthy and a great communicator to ensure customers and your team have confidence
• Fluent in English (second language is a plus)
• No criminal convictions that prevent overseas travel
• Ability to freely enter the USA/Canada without visa
• Adhere to health and safety at all times and never take shortcuts

Normal Hours: Monday-Thursday 08.00 to 17.00, Friday 08.00 to 14.00 (Note longer hours will be required with travel)
