The Role
Are you a motivated individual who enjoys working outdoors, travelling across the UK, and playing a key role in protecting environmental standards? ALS Laboratories is seeking 2 Sampling Technicians to join our Commercial Field Services team, undertaking environmental sampling and monitoring for both ad hoc and long-term clients. This is an exciting opportunity to join a company committed to excellence, with strong career progression and a focus on quality, safety, and client service.
You will be responsible for conducting environmental sampling and monitoring activities across the UK, supporting our diverse customer base from private households to landfill sites. You’ll be driving a temperature-controlled refrigerated van to and from sampling locations and ensuring samples are returned promptly to our Coventry laboratory via drop-off courier points.
This is a field-based role that requires travel and working outdoors in all weather conditions. On occasion, you will provide weekend cover for drinking water sampling on a rotational standby basis (additional pay applies).

The day to day
Undertake sampling of:
Groundwater and surface water
Trade effluent and wastewater
Potable (drinking) water
Gas, dust, and legionella
Conduct on-site field testing using calibrated scientific equipment
Record and report field data accurately in line with ALS quality procedures
Transport samples in line with temperature control requirements
Adhere to ALS and client Health & Safety policies at all times
Drive long distances safely and legally, maintaining a professional manner at all customer sites
Act as the public face of ALS, liaising with clients in a polite, professional, and respectful way
The Essentials
Full UK driving licence (clean)
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Well-organised with strong attention to detail
Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather
An effective communicator with good interpersonal skills
Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel
Willing to travel and occasionally stay overnight if required
Experience working within Health & Safety or Quality Management Systems
Environmental monitoring experience is desirable but not essential, full training will be provided
