As Site Quality Manager – Food Microbiology, you will lead the control of the site Quality Management System (QMS), ensuring the quality of analytical data produced meets BS EN ISO 17025:2017 and supports excellent outcomes for our clients.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities

  • Control the site QMS, advising on and monitoring all aspects of quality on site
  • Lead internal auditing and deliver technical and quality audits (on site and other ALS sites upon request)
  • Maintain and monitor Quality Control (QC) records and manage internal/external QC sample results
  • Manage equipment and equipment records in ALimS+, ensuring correct recording, labelling, and calibration to schedule
  • Manage QC/proficiency testing failures and internal non‑conformances with Laboratory Management in line with ALS Group procedures
  • Support investigations into anomalies and complaints with Laboratory Management, in line with ALS Group procedures
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), including completion and effectiveness checks
  • Support validation, host client/regulatory visits with the Site General Manager, and deliver quality‑related training as required

Occupational Health & Safety Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with ALS safety requirements as set out in the safety manual
  • Immediately elevate unsafe practices to the Site General Manager and/or Laboratory Manager
  • Work with Laboratory Management to rectify unsafe practices and strengthen the site safety culture
  • Comply with PPE requirements at all times
  • Report incidents and near‑misses to a member of the on‑site management team

Essential Criteria

  • Qualifications in Science, Food Sciences, or Quality Management
  • Strong working knowledge of laboratory quality systems and BS EN ISO 17025:2017 requirements
  • Experience controlling and maintaining a Quality Management System in a laboratory/technical environment
  • Internal auditing experience, with the ability to manage non‑conformances and drive improvement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong reporting and technical writing capability
  • Very high attention to detail and a methodical, process‑driven approach
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines and influence across teams
  • Good analytical/numerical skills, good computer literacy, and an understanding of the food industry and client expectations
