Based onsite at our Carlisle laboratory, you will play a vital part in the day-to-day operation of a busy microbiology team. As a Microbiology Laboratory Technician, you will ensure samples are processed efficiently and accurately, working to tight turnaround times whilst upholding the highest standards of quality and health and safety. You will be a trusted member of the team, collaborating closely with colleagues in a professionally rewarding environment.
The position
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Contract: Full Time, Permanent
- Salary: £26,867
- Shift Patterns available: Tuesday to Friday: 12:45–21:45 | Saturday: 11:30–20:30 | Sunday: 11:30–20:30 | Monday to Thursday: 12:45–21:45
The day to day:
- Carry out allocated testing precisely in line with documented methods and procedures, maintaining consistently high quality standards.
- Complete daily QC checks and equipment calibrations to keep the laboratory running at its best.
- Deliver testing within required turnaround times, ensuring results meet both method specifications and customer expectations.
- Escalate issues or uncertainties that may impact testing to the Shift Supervisor promptly and without hesitation.
The Essentials:
- A Level (or equivalent) in a science subject, or relevant hands-on laboratory experience.
- Strong attention to detail and a genuine commitment to cleanliness and safety.
- Confident IT skills, including experience with LIMS for data entry and recording.
- The ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines reliably in a fast-paced setting.
- Clear, effective communication skills and a collaborative team-oriented approach.
- A working understanding of quality systems such as ISO 9001 or ISO 17025, and familiarity with COSHH.
