We are seeking an experienced Senior Aerodynamicist to join our Aerodynamics department. This is a senior technical position offering the opportunity to influence aerodynamic concepts from initial hypothesis through CFD, wind tunnel and on‑track evaluation. Working within one of the aerodynamic development teams, you will apply your experience and technical judgement to deliver competitive aerodynamic solutions, while also supporting and mentoring less experienced colleagues.
The Role
As a Senior Aerodynamicist, you will contribute across the full aerodynamic development lifecycle, taking ownership of projects and delivering performance‑focused solutions under the guidance of a Principal Aerodynamicist.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Developing aerodynamic concepts from early hypotheses through CFD, wind tunnel and track analysis, ensuring robust correlation across domains.
- Creating and analysing CFD simulations, producing high‑quality reports that clearly explain aerodynamic effects and flow structures.
- Producing CAD surface geometry using CATIA 3DX, ensuring legality, compliance with departmental standards and suitability for full‑scale application.
- Defining and supporting wind tunnel programmes, including job specifications, pre‑fit and test specifications, and post‑test analysis.
- Working closely with trackside aerodynamicists to follow the on‑track evaluation of developed components and feed learning back into further development.
- Collaborating effectively with colleagues across the aerodynamics department, including model designers, surfacers, CFD methodology engineers, wind tunnel technicians and model makers.
- Proactively improving aerodynamic methodologies and development procedures within your assigned car area.
- Mentoring junior and less‑experienced aerodynamicists, ensuring your experience is shared and applied effectively across the team.
The Person
We are looking for a highly capable and motivated aerodynamicist with strong technical depth and experience in a competitive motorsport environment. You will be educated to at least Bachelor’s level in Aerospace Engineering or a closely related discipline with significant aerodynamic content, and have a proven ability to apply aerodynamic theory to complex, real‑world problems.
You Will Also Bring:
- Experience of wind tunnel testing, preferably within Formula One or a similarly demanding motorsport environment.
- Working knowledge of CFD (preferably OpenFOAM) and CAD (preferably CATIA 3DX).
- Strong problem‑solving capability, sound engineering judgement and excellent attention to detail.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach, recognising the importance of cross‑disciplinary working.
- A proactive, diligent mindset, with comfort working in conditions of change and uncertainty.
- An understanding of the wider development context and a disciplined approach to meeting demanding timelines.
Training and support will be provided as required to ensure continued proficiency in CAD, CFD, wind tunnel processes and data analysis tools used across CFD, wind tunnel and track environments. Alpine F1 strives to be diverse and inclusive, a place where we can all be ourselves. We welcome people from all backgrounds, ethnicities, cultures, and experiences. We are committed to making a consistent, top down effort to be role models on what diversity, inclusion and belonging means in society.
