Race Engineer - The Role
Reporting to the Head of Trackside Engineering, you will manage and run the setup, planning and performance of the Race Support Team car. You will provide support and training to the Young Driver Academy (YDA) drivers and ensure that RST engineering practices reflect those of the race team as closely as possible.
Key Accountabilities Include:
- Engineering planning and organisation for RST events
- Assist the Head of Trackside Engineering on the allocation of test items
- Supporting the specification and build of the RST cars, liaising with relevant groups as required
- Run RST events as required as primary engineer
- Working directly with the YDA to define a training program for young drivers, in and out of the car, including a set syllabus of in car achievements, out of car online training programs, simulator support, Race Control Room visits with real time support, and Race Event and/or F2 support as required
- Ensure RST engineering practices reflect those of the Race Team, making it a seamless transition for drivers and other RST personnel
- Marketing Event support as required
- Race Team Support opportunities could include, when possible
- Join Race Engineering discussions, meetings, and practices as part of the Race Engineering department
- Use the RST car and drivers for development/performance studies as allowed, ensuring a free flow of communication in both directions
- Stand in Performance Engineering duties as required (backup, tests etc.)
- Contribute to post event analysis as required
- Contribute to engineering tool and analysis method development as required, benefitting both RT and RST
- Race attendances as available, acting in a race support role, or YDA support
Race Engineer - The Person
The successful candidate will hold an engineering or relevant degree. They will have a strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, simulation and the key performance differentiators in Formula 1.
In Addition They Will Possess:
- A good knowledge of software used within Alpine, such as ATLAS, MATLAB/Simulink or Python
- Multiple years of experience at a high level of motorsport
- Self-motivated, willing to work collaboratively with other individuals, as part of a group, and with other groups within the team
- A role model to the department, working to the highest standards and in accordance with the company values
