An established main contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Engineer to join its project team in Oxford. This is an excellent opportunity for an Engineer with strong technical and site delivery experience to take responsibility for the engineering function on significant construction projects. You’ll work closely with the wider project team, subcontractors and supply chain, while overseeing Site Engineers and ensuring works are delivered accurately, safely and to specification.

The Role

As Senior Engineer, you will take responsibility for site engineering across packages including earthworks, piling, groundworks and drainage, structural steel, cladding and general construction. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the site engineering function and overseeing Site Engineers
  • Ensuring accurate setting out and dimensional control
  • Reviewing technical drawings, specifications and contract information
  • Managing external surveys where required
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of temporary works
  • Ensuring compliance with SHEQ procedures, RAMS and project requirements
  • Producing and implementing Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Maintaining accurate quality and compliance records
  • Providing engineering input into programmes and site logistics
  • Monitoring progress and reporting against programme
  • Chairing subcontractor progress meetings
  • Producing weekly and monthly progress reports where required
  • Identifying and communicating programme risks and changes
  • Undertaking PDRs and supporting the training and development of Site Engineers

About You

To be considered, you should have:

  • A Degree, HND or equivalent qualification
  • At least 5 years' experience in a similar engineering role
  • Strong experience in groundworks and steel-framed buildings
  • Demonstrable setting-out experience on large-scale contracts
  • Experience taking responsibility for engineering delivery on site
  • SMSTS
  • A valid driving licence
  • Previous experience on major construction projects and concrete structures, including slipform or jumpform, would be particularly advantageous.
  • First Aid training and experience using Fieldview or 4P Viewpoint would also be beneficial.
